# Is Framer good for SEO and AI search?

> Bring your Framer site’s URL. Framer already pre-renders every page, generates robots.txt and sitemap.xml, allows AI crawlers and serves a Markdown copy of each page, so you can skip the rendering fixes vibe-coded apps need. Check that nothing overrides those defaults, give every page its own title and description, then spend your time on pages that answer buyers’ questions and on measuring what assistants say.

## The short answer

Yes, on the technical side Framer is ahead of most builders. Framer sites are built with React, but every page is pre-rendered to HTML on Framer’s servers, so crawlers that don’t run JavaScript still get the text, headings, title, description, Open Graph tags, canonical URL and any JSON-LD you add. Framer generates robots.txt and sitemap.xml for every published site, allows all AI and search crawlers in that robots.txt by default, and serves a Markdown copy of each optimized page at the same URL ([Framer Help, “Make your site readable by AI agents”](https://www.framer.com/help/articles/make-site-readable-by-ai-agents/), read 15 Oct 2026).

So the usual vibe-coder fix, getting text out of JavaScript, isn’t your problem. Your work on Framer is checking that nothing overrides those defaults, then content.

## Where Framer sites still slip

| Setting | Framer’s default | What goes wrong |
| --- | --- | --- |
| robots.txt | Generated, allows all crawlers | An uploaded file replaces it completely; an old one can shut out GPTBot or OAI-SearchBot |
| noindex and agent rules | Off; set per page or agent in site settings | A page copied from a template keeps a noindex |
| Titles and descriptions | Site-wide, unless set per page or per CMS item | Every page shares one description |
| Default Framer subdomain | Exists for every project and can’t be customized | Framer’s help doesn’t say whether it redirects to your domain; check it |
| llms.txt | None until you upload one | Nothing breaks; it’s optional |
| Structured data | Only what you add | Assistants and Google get no Organization or FAQ facts |
| Changed URLs | No redirect until you add one in Site Settings | Old links and indexed URLs return 404 |

## Test it in one minute

An example; replace the domain, and use your own default Framer address in the last line:

```bash
URL=https://yoursite.com
curl -s -A 'Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; GPTBot/1.2)' $URL/ | sed 's/<[^>]*>/ /g' | wc -w
curl -s "$URL/?md" | head -15
curl -s $URL/robots.txt
curl -s $URL/pricing | grep -o '<meta name="description"[^>]*>'
curl -sI https://your-project.framer.app/ | head -3
```

What good looks like: hundreds of words, Markdown with your real headings, a robots.txt with no `Disallow: /` under any AI bot, a description written for that page, and a default address that either redirects to your domain or isn’t a second live copy of your site. If GPTBot gets a 403, the block sits in front of Framer; the [AI crawler checker](https://katman.pro/tools/ai-crawler-checker) tests the main AI bots at once.

## What’s left on Framer: the content

1. **A title and description per page,** in site settings or the CMS fields. The description is the sentence you’d like an assistant to repeat.
2. **One H1 per page.** Framer’s SEO guide says header tags may need manual adjustment, because a big heading in the design isn’t always an `h1` in the HTML.
3. **JSON-LD where it fits.** Framer’s guide recommends it for articles, events and videos; add Organization and FAQ data with the same facts as your pages.
4. **A page for each buyer question.** Framer’s CMS generates a crawlable page for each item, which makes one page per situation easy. Make each one answer its question in the first two sentences; dozens of near-identical CMS pages tend to end up as “Crawled - currently not indexed”.
5. **llms.txt, if you want one.** Upload it under Site Settings → Hosting → Files ([Framer Help, “Add an llms.txt file”](https://www.framer.com/help/articles/llms-txt-framer/), read 15 Oct 2026). Read [what it does and doesn’t do](https://katman.pro/what-is-llms-txt) first, or draft one with the [llms.txt generator](https://katman.pro/llms-txt-generator).
6. **Measure.** Ask the same buyer questions every 14 days, logged out, and note who gets named: [how to check](https://katman.pro/check-if-chatgpt-recommends-your-site).

## What Katman does on a Framer site

Framer doesn’t offer code or HTML export ([Framer Help](https://www.framer.com/help/articles/can-i-export-my-website-to-html-and-self-host-it/), read 15 Oct 2026), so there’s no repo for Katman’s code scan to read. The rest works from the live URL: run Katman in Claude Desktop, Cursor or another MCP client, and `katman_audit_site` reads your pages the way AI crawlers do, `katman_page_brief` writes a brief for each buyer question, `katman_generate` writes llms.txt and JSON-LD to paste into Framer, and `katman_visibility_run` asks ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok your questions on your own OpenRouter key, about $2.40 a run on the default panel. Katman Pro is $99 a month for up to 3 sites, with fix prompts and page briefs uncapped. Or have us do it: [Growth](https://katman.pro/done-for-you) writes 30 pages a month for you. [How Katman works](https://katman.pro/mcp).

What it can’t do: Katman can’t change anything inside Framer. On a Framer site you make every change in the editor yourself, and Katman checks it afterwards. Nobody can promise an assistant will recommend you.

## Who this is not for

- Framer sites that already show text to bots and have a page for every buyer question: measure, don’t rebuild.
- Designers looking for Framer layout or animation advice: this page is about being found.
- Anyone hoping to move off Framer by exporting code: Framer doesn’t offer that.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can ChatGPT read a Framer site?

Yes, as far as rendering goes. Framer says each page is pre-rendered to HTML on its servers, and its generated robots.txt allows all AI and search crawlers by default.

### Does Framer serve a Markdown version of my pages?

Yes, for optimized pages. Framer says a request with the header Accept: text/markdown, or a URL ending in ?md, returns Markdown; it may be unavailable when a site is rate-limited.

### How do I add llms.txt to a Framer site?

Upload it under Site Settings → Hosting → Files and publish; it then loads at /llms.txt. Framer describes file hosting as a paid-plan feature, and the file itself is optional.

### Can a custom robots.txt hurt my Framer site?

Yes. An uploaded robots.txt replaces the one Framer generates, so an old file that disallows GPTBot or OAI-SearchBot overrides Framer’s allow-all default.

### Can I export my Framer site and host it myself?

No. Framer’s help center says it doesn’t offer HTML export for self-hosting, because published sites depend on its backend services.
