Is Base44 good for SEO?
Bring your Base44 app and a custom domain. Publish it, run the SEO & GEO scan, add the meta descriptions Base44 doesn’t write, switch on llms.txt if you want one and connect Search Console. Then spend your time on pages that answer buyers’ questions and on checking what assistants say. Base44 already handles rendering for crawlers, so you don’t need to export or rebuild anything.
The short answer
Yes, more than most builders, as long as you publish on your own domain. Base44 apps draw their screens in the browser, but Base44 serves crawlers a rendered HTML version with meta tags, structured data and the real page content; a page that hasn’t been rendered yet gets a short summary with its heading, description and links (Base44 docs, “Getting your app found in search”, read 15 Oct 2026). The condition matters: Base44 says its SEO setup is designed for apps on a custom domain, and base44.app URLs aren’t meant for long-term SEO. (Base44 has been part of Wix since June 2025, according to Wix’s annual report on Form 20-F.)
What Base44 does, and what it leaves
| Automatic on a custom domain | Not automatic |
|---|---|
| A unique title per page, based on its URL | Meta descriptions: you add them |
Self-referencing canonicals, with utm_* parameters removed |
WebSite, Organization and FAQPage schema: one “Fix with AI” click each |
/sitemap.xml with public, indexable pages only |
Article, LocalBusiness and other schema: prompts or code |
| robots.txt allowing public content | llms.txt: off by default |
| Open Graph and Twitter tags, images at 1200 × 630 | Pages that answer your buyers’ questions |
| BreadcrumbList schema on every page | Knowing who assistants name instead of you |
Test it in one minute
Base44 doesn’t say how it recognizes crawlers, so compare what a browser and a bot get. An example; replace the domain:
URL=https://yourapp.com
echo "browser: $(curl -s $URL/ | sed 's/<[^>]*>/ /g' | wc -w) words"
echo "GPTBot: $(curl -s -A 'Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; GPTBot/1.2)' $URL/ \
| sed 's/<[^>]*>/ /g' | wc -w) words"
curl -s $URL/ | grep -o '<meta name="description"[^>]*>'
curl -s $URL/sitemap.xml | grep -c '<loc>'
If GPTBot gets hundreds of words, the crawler copy works for AI bots that identify themselves. If both numbers are small, check Search Console’s URL inspection live test, which shows what Googlebot receives. No description tag means step 4 below.
Fixes on Base44
- Connect a custom domain. Base44 calls it “the single biggest improvement you can make to your score” (Base44 docs, “Optimizing your app’s SEO & GEO”, read 15 Oct 2026). If you connect a domain you own, delete any
AAAArecords and allow up to 72 hours for DNS. - Publish and keep it public. Scans only work on published apps. Login-gated pages are excluded automatically when the app is public; a fully login-gated app isn’t.
- Run the scan. Dashboard → Marketing → SEO & GEO → Run scan. Scans don’t use credits. “Fix with AI” writes a prompt into the chat, and nothing changes until you send it; run “Scan again” afterwards.
- Write meta descriptions in the Meta tags tab: titles 10 to 60 characters, descriptions up to 160. Tags saved there override the titles in your code.
- Hide thin pages. Turning off Search visibility for a page adds
noindexand removes it from the sitemap and llms.txt. Use it for near-empty or duplicate pages rather than letting Google decide. - Decide on llms.txt under Advanced settings (AI assistant discovery). It’s off by default; if you switch it on, make sure it says what your pages say. Background on what llms.txt does and doesn’t do.
- Connect Search Console from the same page (Base44 says the connection is rolling out gradually; you can verify yourself) and add Bing Webmaster Tools. Base44 expects indexing to take a few days to a few weeks.
What’s left: pages, facts, measurement
Base44’s AI Visibility view, on the Pro plan or higher, shows AI crawls, appearances in AI answers, visits from AI and the most-read page for the last 7 days. That tells you what assistants read. It doesn’t tell you which buyer questions you have no page for, or who gets named instead. Write one page per question a buyer asks an assistant, open each with a two-sentence answer, keep your price and one-line description identical everywhere, and ask the same questions every 14 days: why ChatGPT doesn’t recommend your brand and how to check.
What Katman does on a Base44 app
Katman is an MCP server that runs inside Cursor, Claude Code, Claude Desktop and other AI tools. katman_audit_site reads your live Base44 pages the way AI crawlers do, katman_page_brief writes a brief for each buyer question that you hand to Base44’s chat, and katman_visibility_run asks ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok your questions on your own OpenRouter key, about $2.40 a run on the default panel. None of that needs your code. If you do want the code in a repo, Base44 offers two-way GitHub sync in personal workspaces and a one-way export in shared ones, both on the Builder plan or higher; the two-way sync can’t be undone (Base44 docs, GitHub, read 15 Oct 2026).
Limits: Katman’s code scan doesn’t recognize Base44 by name, and the crawler copy is made on Base44’s servers, so the live audit tells you more than the code. Katman doesn’t change your app; you or Base44’s chat make each change. Nobody can promise an assistant will recommend you. Katman Pro is $99 a month for up to 3 sites, with fix prompts and page briefs uncapped. Or have us do it: Growth writes 30 pages a month for you. How Katman works.

Who this is not for
- Base44 apps that are entirely behind a login: Base44 doesn’t handle those automatically, and they shouldn’t be in search anyway.
- Apps that will stay on a base44.app address: Base44 itself doesn’t support that setup for long-term SEO.
- Anyone expecting an SEO score to bring visitors: a high score means readable, not recommended.
Frequently asked questions
Does Base44 render pages for Google and AI crawlers?
Yes. Base44’s docs say its apps are client-rendered for people, but crawlers get a rendered HTML version with meta tags, structured data and the page content; pages not rendered yet get a short summary instead.
Can a base44.app address rank on Google?
It can be crawled, but Base44 says base44.app URLs aren’t intended for long-term, production SEO, and its scan caps your score without a custom domain.
Does Base44 write meta descriptions for me?
No. Titles, canonicals, the sitemap and breadcrumbs are automatic on a custom domain, but descriptions aren’t set by default; add them in the Meta tags tab of the SEO & GEO page.
Can I undo Base44’s GitHub sync?
Not the two-way sync. Base44 says it is permanent: you can’t disconnect or move the project back, and Version History only restores versions that exist in the connected repo.
Who owns Base44?
Wix. Its annual report on Form 20-F says Wix acquired Base44 in June 2025.
