Katman is a local MCP server that you add to your AI coding tool with one command or one JSON block; it needs Node.js 20 or newer.

Katman has 17 tools in three groups: method tools for research, planning, prompts and content checks; crawl tools that scan your code and audit your live site; and visibility tools that measure what AI assistants say.
- Permissions: what Katman can do
Katman reads the files in your project but never your secrets, writes only to the .katman folder unless you explicitly ask for a generated file, and makes network calls only when a tool needs them.

A visibility run asks your fixed question set (12 unbranded questions and 2 diagnostics) to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok through OpenRouter, with live web search and your own key, and records who was named, recommended and cited.
- Troubleshooting
Most Katman problems come from five places: the MCP client can’t start the server, Katman is looking at the wrong folder, a key (KATMAN_KEY or the OpenRouter key) isn’t in the server’s environment, your plan doesn’t cover the tool (Audit Week has ended, or the tool needs Pro), or your site blocks the audit.
