GEO tools: which ones fix your site, and which only track it?

Short answer

GEO tools do one or more of three jobs: track whether assistants name you, diagnose why not, and change the site or write the pages. Trackers such as Otterly.AI, Peec AI and Semrush measure; Search Atlas OTTO changes the live site and Scrunch serves agents their own version; Rampify, GEOHATS and Katman work through your editor or your approval. Pick by where the change has to land: your CMS, your CDN, or your code.

Three jobs, not one

“GEO tool” covers products that do very different work. Sort them by job before comparing prices:

  • Track: ask assistants a fixed set of questions on a schedule and record who gets named and cited.
  • Diagnose: explain why you’re missing, for example AI bots blocked, an empty JavaScript page, no page that answers the question.
  • Change: edit the site, serve bots a different version, or write and publish pages.

Most products on the market started as trackers and added diagnosis. Fewer change anything, and they do it in different places. Our ranked list of trackers is at AI visibility tools; this page is about the second and third jobs.

Ask one question of any tool that says it fixes: where does the change end up?

  1. In your repo, as a diff. You review it, it’s in version control, and you can revert it. Good for sites built with code or AI coding tools.
  2. At the edge (CDN, pixel or worker). No code change needed, but the page bots see can differ from your source. Check what you’d lose if you cancel.
  3. In the CMS, as a draft or a published page. Good for WordPress and content teams. Read every page before it goes live.
  4. In a document you act on. Recommendations and briefs. Nothing changes until someone does the work.

None is wrong. The mismatch is the problem: an edge fix on a site whose source still ships an empty JavaScript shell, or a content brief for a page AI crawlers can’t load. Test the basics first with the free AI crawler checker and the one-minute tests in vibe-coded site invisible to ChatGPT.

Example: a tracker finding vs a fix

The same problem, as each kind of tool hands it to you. A tracker says:

Prompt: "offline habit tracker for Android"
ChatGPT: not mentioned (0 of 3 runs). Competitors named: Loop, Streaks.

A fix, as an instruction to your coding tool with a check it must pass:

Add a server-rendered page at /offline-habit-tracker that answers
"Which habit tracker works offline on Android?" in its first sentence.
Acceptance: curl -s https://example.com/offline-habit-tracker | grep -c "works offline"
returns 1 or more, and the page is listed in sitemap.xml.

The tracker tells you there’s a gap. The fix closes it in a way you can verify.

What Katman does here, and what it can’t

Katman is an MCP server that runs inside Cursor, Claude Code, VS Code, Windsurf, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI or Claude Desktop. It reads your code and live pages the way AI crawlers do, writes the fix prompts and page briefs your coding tool works from, generates robots.txt, llms.txt and JSON-LD, measures whether ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok name you (about $2.40 a run on your own OpenRouter key), and re-checks each fix. More on the MCP and the method.

It can’t change your site on its own, run as a hosted dashboard for a team, or tell you what consumer apps show users: API answers are a proxy. Nobody can promise an assistant will recommend you.

Who this is not for

  • Teams that only need a monitoring dashboard: our tracker comparison covers that.
  • Readers who want ranking tricks: no tool controls what an assistant says.

Frequently asked questions

What is a GEO tool?

Software for generative engine optimization: it measures how AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini answer questions in your field, and some also help change your site so those answers can find and quote it.

Is a tracker useless without a fixer?

No. A tracker tells you whether your work moved anything. It just doesn’t tell your site what to do, so pair it with someone or something that makes the change.

Is it safe to let a tool change my live site automatically?

It depends on how you review it. Search Atlas says OTTO deploys on autopilot by default, with an optional approval mode; a change that goes through a pull request or a CMS draft is easier to check and roll back.

Can a tool fix a site built with Lovable or Bolt?

Lovable has server rendering for new apps, prerendering for older ones and an SEO and AI search review on all tiers. For other builders, sync the code to GitHub and open it in an AI coding tool.

Which kind of tool should I buy first?

If AI crawlers can’t read your pages, a fixer or a rendering service. If they can, and you need to know whether answers change, a tracker. Many sites need the fix before the tracker.
